Shiromani Chilkoti was appointed as Senior NCO (B1) of the Signal Platoon of SP Company. He was entrusted with the responsibility of communicating battle conditions between the platoon and Brigade Headquarters.

7:30 PM - Enemy Onslaught

The enemy unleashed heavy artillery, mortars, and tanks across the Ichhogil Canal. Chilkoti was responsible for establishing communications throughout the enclosed area.

Extraordinary Courage and Sacrifice

Despite communication disruptions, with full awareness of the gravity of the situation, Shiromani Chilkoti alerted all platoons under his command and prepared them for battle. But in that moment, an enemy artillery shell struck him.

Martyrdom

With unmatched courage and exemplary bravery, Shiromani Chilkoti sacrificed his life while performing his duties in the Manj area (18 km from Amritsar towards Lahore), in defense of the motherland.
